STUDENTS & VOLUNTEERS: THRIVE HIV Testing Training

We are excited to announce that THRIVE will be hosting an HIV Testing Training, led by Kristin Walker of the Health Federation of Philadelphia.

Training will be held on Sep 23rd, from 2pm-4pm and will cover how to counsel patients on HIV Testing, discussing PrEP with patients and how to discuss a positive HIV test.  If you plan on attending, please register at https://forms.gle/FYmHv4NyihzHzqTE7 by Tuesday, Sept 20th.  Training is open to all and is required of those interested in assisting with HIV testing at THRIVE currently or in the future.

TEAC's Opioid Wellness Liaison (OWL) Program is hiring a Licensed Social Worker!

Position Description:

The Temple Opioid Wellness Liaison (OWL) program, in partnership with the One Day at a Time Shelter (ODAAT), is seeking a licensed social worker to provide patient services at the weekly THRIVE student run medical clinic. Benefits include $34/hr compensation for an estimated 4-5 hours weekly (2.5 hrs in clinic, 1.5-2.5 hours in care coordination outside of clinic)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Availability for clinic at the ODAAT shelter (2404 W Lehigh, Philadelphia) from 6pm-8:30pm each Tuesday (excluding the weeks of Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter)

  • Perform functional assessments identifying barriers to improving and maintaining optimal health

  • Complete biopsychosocial assessments and distress/mental health screenings

  • Referral to specialized medical services including, but not limited to; behavioral health treatment, primary care, public benefits (ex. COMPASS, WIC), financial/employment counseling, housing support, and counseling

  • Provide patients with resources to education and support programs (e.g., parenting classes, domestic violence support programs) for individuals

  • Ensure patients have active medical insurance and work with medical student volunteers to enroll uninsured participants

  • Work with medical students to help patients obtain medications and transportation to necessary appointments/services

  • Work with medical students to ensure continuity of care and uninterrupted service delivery and identify gaps in plans of care

  • Utilize Temple University Hospital as well as community counseling resources to meet needs outside of own scope

  • Outreach and coordination with other community resources and agencies

  • Assure chart documentation consistently meets standards for accountability and confidentiality

EXPERIENCE:

To perform effectively in this position, the applicant must have/be:

  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the State of Pennsylvania

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong clerical/administrative and organizational skills

  • Knowledge of and experience working with persons experiencing homelessness, substance use disorders, and mental health issues

  • Ability to work effectively with people of diverse cultures, ages, and economic backgrounds in a culturally competent and sensitive manner

  • Ability to make routine decisions and determine proper action based on experience within the limits of policy and procedures

  • Demonstrated commitment to advocacy and social justice, particularly as related to harm reduction, HIV/AIDS, HCV, poverty, and homelessness

  • Bilingual capacity with ability to provide services in English and Spanish is preferred

EDUCATION:

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work or related field from accredited university.

  • LSW or LCSW in State of Pennsylvania
